About Our Organization

Friends

We are a volunteer organization housed at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville, Tennessee. We partner with St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Yorktown, VA, Saint John Neumann Catholic Church Knoxville, and St. Anselm Parish in suburban St. Louis, Missouri. We receive financial support from dozens of individuals and businesses. With no administrative costs, all donations go to support our education, medical and spiritual missions in Haiti.

Partners

Since 1999 we have worked closely with the people of Boucan-Carré, a rural community of 58,000 in Haiti’s Central Plateau. Our efforts are based upon a close partnership with the Haitian parish of St. Michel. A portion of our funding goes to support the spiritual mission of St. Michel parish. We welcome the participation of any church or individual that would like to join our mission.

Misson

The mission of the Haiti Outreach Program:

We are breaking the cycles of poverty in Haiti, through our relationships with the people of Boucan-Carré, focused on Mind (Education), Body (Healthcare), and Spirit (Faith).

We Have the Power to Impact Their Future, and We’re Doing Something About It

Education (Mind)

Our donors sponsor approximately 900 children at Ecole St. Michel Primary School, 270 7th to philo students at College de St. Michel High School, and young women at the Boucan-Carré Vocational School where they focus on cooking & sewing to support the local village. Our funding pays the salaries of 26 full-time and 28 part-time teachers at the two schools.

Healthcare (BODY)

Thousands of Haitians who live in the country’s most remote regions have little or no access to medical care. One in every two children dies before the age of four from malaria, typhoid, cholera, and other tropical diseases. In 2016, we opened a medical mission in the remote village of Bouly, reachable only by a five-hour trek.

Faith (SPIRIT)

St. Michel parish in Boucan-Carré is the largest in the region and serves as the hub for several remote chapels located in the surrounding mountains. Much like American preachers in the 19th Century, the priest at St. Michel’s, Father Lamarre, travels among the mountain chapels to service his parishioners.
