The Story

The Haiti Outreach Program coordinates our efforts with a “twin parish,” St. Michel parish in Boucan-Carré. In a country with few social services, we provide funds to the church that is often called upon to fill this role. The priest at St. Michel, Fr. Michelet Lamarre, makes his rectory available to our volunteers who travel to Haiti. Participation with local residents in the services at St. Michel and at the remote chapels is an important part of our work in Haiti.

We have undertaken a number of projects in support of St. Michel parish. In 2014 we funded construction of a new roof for the church. Led by St. Anselm parish in St. Louis, a new rectory was dedicated in 2017. The rectory provides expanded space, including bathrooms, for our volunteer missions.

The old church building (top left image) was in severe disrepair and has now been torn down. Thanks to the amazing generosity of St. Anselm, a new temporary parish church has been completed in 2022. This feat was achieved by transforming an old unused building (2nd 2 images left) and moving the altar, all the pews, and the music equipment. It is now open for worship and fellowship.

This renovated structure will be repurposed as a Youth Center when the day comes to build a new permanent parish church.
